(I’m not sure why this post never posted – I wrote it back in April!)
I had a great week in Las Vegas at the Romantic Times Convention! I’ve been here all week, and now I’m sitting in the airport, waiting for my flight back home. I’m tired but contented. I learned a lot, and I think I shared a lot with other authors and aspiring authors.
The Blushing Books convention was first, “piggy backed” onto the RT Convention. We had a good number of authors come, and had two days of classes and presentations, covering a wide variety of topics from marketing to social media, from building memorable characters to how to hit the USA Today best sellers list. I took lots of notes, and will post what I learned under the Romance Writers column.
Then came the Romantic Times convention. I was discouraged Wednesday night. I felt that the presentations I attended were poor quality. The presenters weren’t prepared, or weren’t knowledgeable about their topic. Thursday was more of same – so I left to take a nap. I think I was a little “jet lagged” by then, too.
Friday, though, was a different matter. I hit the ground running, feeling great, and excited. All four presentations I attended were fantastic. I went to Robin Carr’s author party, got to meet her, even posing for a picture with her! I won a beautiful bouquet of yellow roses, and received four autographed books – two from Robin Carr and two from Susan Mallery.
I went to the Avon Books party, and got 27 signed paperbacks, and another 25 or so free ebooks! They served wine – I didn’t see any food, but I was late, so I almost missed the party altogether.
Today, after the massive book fair, my husband and I spent a few luscious hours by the pool, relaxing and unwinding before we had to head to the airport.
It was a great week. I’m super-charged. I have a lot of ideas of what I’d like to accomplish this year, how I’d like to take charge of my writing career and move it forward. But more than that, I just feel great! Looking forward to sharing more details with you soon!
